Ron Belliard ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Chicago Colts outscored
the Columbus Crowd 14 to 10.
Belliard had a great day at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st
inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 5th inning,
lined a base-hit in the 7th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his
5th of the season) in the 9th inning. Chicago provided plenty of action in
the 8th inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits. Chicago out-hit Columbus for
the game, 20 hits to 14.
The winning pitcher was Tomo Ohka(4-6) who allowed 5 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Jose Contreras(3-9) ended up with the loss. He was unable to
control the Chicago offense and allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3
innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Belliard said. 'Whenever
I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
